Support for a Healthy Menopause
Research has shown that heart disease risk increases in women who reach
menopause early. It was previously believed that heart disease risk increased
when women reached menopause, and that lack of estrogen was the problem.
The Women’s Health Initiative, a large study involving over 15,000 women,
demonstrated that giving women estrogen did not decrease heart disease
risk but actually increased it. Now new research has shown that women who
have cardiovascular disease reach menopause earlier and are at higher risk for
heart attack and stroke. In other words, early heart disease is promoting early
menopause and the extreme menopause symptoms seen in some women.
Considering that women now have equal rates of heart disease to men and more
women are dying of heart attacks, women must lower their risk of cardiovascular
disease and the organic pomegranate found in Meno Food can help reduce
that risk.
A study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology in
May 2006 found that women with high cholesterol reached menopause earlier
than women with normal cholesterol. Women with cholesterol levels that kept
rising unchecked reached menopause 2.6 years earlier than healthy women.
Also women who had significant weight gain during the peri-menopausal years
had menopause occur 7.15 years earlier. Women who lost weight during the
study had menopause appear later. The reason this study is so important is that
it points out that overweight women and women with cardiovascular disease
(high blood pressure and cholesterol) reach menopause earlier and this then can
increase bone loss and severe menopause symptoms. Menopause means one
year with no menstrual period. Approximately 70 to 80 percent of women will
experience mild to moderate symptoms while the balance may suffer with severe
symptoms. Meno Food Organic Pomegranate and Whey Protein Shake will
help lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and aid a healthy menopause while
reducing symptoms.
Meno Food provides an excellent source of protein and is rich in antioxidants
from organic pomegranate. The combination of whey protein and organic
pomegranate provides strong support for cardiovascular health, supports healthy
cholesterol levels, balances blood sugar, improves mood, reduces cravings and
also improves skin, hair and nails.
Pomegranate
The OrAc value of the organic pomegranate in Meno Food is 3974.
OrAc means Oxygen radical Absorbance capacity. It is a test tube
analysis that measures the total antioxidant power of foods and other
chemical substances.
Pomegranate seeds possess anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting
cyclooxygenase and lipoxgenase enzymes, which are responsible for
inflammation. Pomegranate contains powerful punicalagin antioxidants.
MenoFood provides 240mg of punicalagins per serving. Research has shown
pomegranate reduces lipid peroxidation, total cholesterol, the development
of atherosclerosis; it reduces systolic blood pressure and stress-induced
myocardial ischemia in patients who have coronary heart disease and it
reduces thickening of the carotid artery. Also, pomegranate has been used
since ancient times as a remedy to reduce menopause symptoms. Another
study has found it reduces gum disease (Persons with gum disease are 5
times more likely to develop cardiovascular disease). Pomegranate provides
greater antioxidant capacity than green tea, red wine, blueberry juice, and
others.
Whey Protein
Whey protein keeps your blood sugar levels stabilized and helps maintain
healthy insulin levels. When it is too high, insulin increases our risk of heart
disease, diabetes and obesity. When blood sugar is too low (hypoglycemia),
from not eating enough protein, we get mood swings, food cravings and we
feel lethargic and weak. The Diabetes Associations recommend we eat 30
percent of our diet from protein sources. A protein shake is an easy way to
get low calorie protein that will enhance metabolism and increase energy.
